Leaver's Announcement: After 11 years of Partnership with Yardley Wood Health Centre Dr Meyer will be leaving the surgery in January. We wish him all the very best for the future and on behalf of all Patients and Colleagues we thank him for the care he has provided. We are a Training Practice: We have two registrars completing their training with us throughout 2020, Dr Hussain (m)and Dr Dowling (f) and wish them a very warm welcome.

Surgery update: We are very happy to announce that we have a new Partner joining us in November! Dr Yin Aungyi is very experienced as a GP, she has a particular interest in Women's Health. We also have Dr Harjeevan Gill starting with us in December and he will be working Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We wish them both a very warm welcome!

Chronic Disease Recall Notice: We have introduced a new annual review recall system grouping chronic conditions together into one letter where possible and calling for patients alphabetically. For this year only you may receive your recall letter earlier than you would expect to attend, but we would still like you to make the required appointments. Through introducing this new system we aim to reduce the amount of letters/correspondence we send you, reduce multiple and unnecessary blood tests and save the amount of time patients take to attend the surgery for multiple reviews.

Text Messaging: Check your contact details are up to date with reception ASAP to make the most of our new text messaging service, where your doctor, nurse or receptionist will pass on important information to you or ask you to book an appointment. 

Repeat Prescriptions

These are issued at your doctor's discretion and are normally for patients on a long-term treatment who have been regularly reviewed (excluding contraceptive pill and HRT).

Requests can be made in writing and either brought in or posted to the surgery. If you enclose an SAE, your prescription can be returned to you or your pharmacist.

Please allow at least 48 hours* for your prescription to be processed and make allowances for weekends and public holidays.

*Repeat Prescriptions from 19/7/19: Please note that due to staff scheduling over the Summer your Prescriptions will take three working days to complete-72hrs.

Important changes to the way “repeat prescriptions” are ordered

A “repeat prescription” - a medication you can receive regularly without having to see your doctor every time you order it. Depending on how you request your medicines, the way that it works for you may be about to change.

The surgery will only accept repeat prescription requests from you or your carer. You can request your repeat prescription from the surgery in the following ways:

• at the surgery, using your prescription order form (the list of medication attached to the right hand side of your prescription)
• by post, using the right hand side of your prescription
• on line (see receptionist to sign up for patient Access online)
• via the app (Patient Access)
• email
Medication should only be ordered when it is needed. Check how much medication you have left and only order a new prescription when you have between 5-7 days’ of medication remaining. You will need to allow 2 working days* for the prescription to be issued. You can let the practice know if there is a reason why you need to order your medication earlier than usual, for example, you will be away when your prescription runs out.

Do you know about Electronic Prescribing?

You can have your prescriptions sent directly to your chosen pharmacy (EPS). In doing so you will no longer have a paper prescription to collect, it will go directly to the pharmacy of your choice. Please speak to your pharmacy or reception regarding this. 

Repeat Dispensing

Some of your medication may be eligible for repeat dispensing (eRD). This means the doctor may be able to give you up to six month's worth of your medication in one go. You will not have to request your medication again until your last prescription is issued. Not all medication can be issued on repeat dispensing. You may want to discuss this with your doctor or inform a receptionist.

Medication Reviews

From time to time you may also find a message on your prescription prompting you to attend  for review. This is part of the Practice’s routine monitoring of all medications and you should make an appointment for review of your prescription with the practice pharmacist or a GP. Sometimes your medication review will be done during a routine appointment for something else, so you may not require a separate appointment for it.

We may have to alter or discontinue your prescription if you do not attend for review.
